Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy is a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure used to examine the large intestine (colon) and rectum. A thin flexible tube with a camera is inserted through the rectum to detect abnormalities such as polyps, inflammation, bleeding, or early signs of colorectal cancer.

Conditions Diagnosed & Treated

Colonoscopy helps diagnose and treat several conditions affecting the colon and rectum:

  • Colon polyps and colorectal cancer screening
  • Chronic diarrhea or constipation
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease & ulcerative colitis)
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding
  • Unexplained abdominal pain or bowel changes

During the procedure, polyps can be removed and biopsies can be taken for further evaluation.

When Is Colonoscopy Recommended?

Your doctor may recommend colonoscopy if you experience the following symptoms:

  • Blood in stool
  • Persistent changes in bowel habits
  • Chronic abdominal discomfort
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Screening for colorectal cancer (especially after age 45)

Early detection through colonoscopy plays a key role in preventing colorectal cancer and identifying digestive diseases at an early stage.

Benefits Of Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy is a highly effective procedure for diagnosing and preventing colon-related diseases.

  • Early detection of colorectal cancer
  • Removal of polyps during the same procedure
  • Accurate diagnosis of bowel diseases
  • Minimally invasive and safe procedure
  • Quick recovery with minimal discomfort

Colonoscopy remains one of the most reliable methods for maintaining colon health and preventing serious gastrointestinal conditions.
